Police would like to remind the public to be vigilant against scammers who gained unauthorized access into Facebook accounts and impersonate the real account holders to ask their Facebook friends for loans or financial assistance to tide over unfortunate events. From January to February 2014, at least 6 cases had been reported of which more than $19 000 had been cheated. Members of public are reminded to adopt the following crime prevention measures to avoid falling victim to such scams:
i. Never transfer/remit money or give credit card or online account details before checking on the authenticity of the request and recipient.
ii. Alert the account holder when you receive messages of such nature. This will also assist you to check as to whether he/she is indeed facing difficulties.
iii. If you are unable to contact the account holder, check with his family members or other friends on his whereabouts before providing any form of assistance.
If you have any information related to this crime, please call the Police hotline at 1800-255 0000 or dial 999 for urgent Police assistance. Information can also be submitted online at www.spf.gov.sg/CrimeStopper. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

Facebook Scam: IPhone Video - Rihanna and Chris Brown S xtape Leaked Today
"The Facebook post: "[iPhone VIDEO] Rihanna & Chris Brown S xtape Leaked Today," is a scam created to trick Facebook users into completing surveys, "liking" or sharing a fake Facebook website. The post promises Facebook users a leaked sex IPhone video of Rihanna and Chris Brown", only if they "like" or share the same website. But, there is no video."
"It is this fake Facebook website that the scammers want you to "like" or share, which will make it popular. Once the page is popular, these scammers can sell it to online marketers or other scammers. They will also make money from the surveys that are completed by gullible Facebook users who were tricked into completing them."

Part-time Job Scams For Minor Preys
This is one of the most sickenning scams we have come across so far.
As reported by Channel News Asia, a 22-year-old guy by the name of Emmanuel Lim Chin Pin preyed on young girls using Facebook. His four victims are between the age of 13 to 14.
For his fourth victim, he offered part-time job that paid $25 per hour just to "feedback about massage service". He would then pretend to be the masseuse and make the victim strip off her school uniform before molesting and sexually abusing her.
Everyone should beware of high paying part-time jobs that require you to go into private houses. If you really can't resist the temptation of the money, at least bring a friend along.
We are very sure that similar scam methods will be used sooner or later. In fact, it is very easy to create a fake Facebook account to do it. Please look out for your friends and give necessary help and advice in order to prevent such crazy thing to happen again.
Lastly, we hope the victims will be able to get over the shadows of their lives soon.

Facebook Impersonate Scam to Ask Victim's Friends for Money
We have witnessed many fake social media profiles in both Facebook and Tagged. Most of the accounts are pretty "harmless".
Today, we have been notified about a more unusual impersonate scam (has happened before though) that the scammer is trying to con the victim's friends into "loaning" him/her money.
The victim is Lyndie Ong, https://www.facebook.com/LyndieOng, a Malaysian.
We would like to advise everyone that if you happen to receive a text from a friend whether through social media or SMS to ask for "help", it's better to double confirm by calling the person directly to hear the voice, or even to meet up the person. You will never know who has hacked or stolen your friend's account or even phone.

Facebook Competition Scam
It is a trend for businesses to market through Facebook. One easy way to gain more LIKEs for the Facebook page is to hold a competition. Participants may have to LIKE and share the page and its post or an application in order to qualify. The result can be determined by highest number of LIKEs or simply by "luckydraw". The latter is usually a scam since the management has the right to select the "winner" and needs not even to come up with the prize in the first place.
One recent Facebook scam page is "Camera Enthusiasts".

1. The page does not link to any website that may provide advice as stated.
2. It claims that Canon has given them seven 7D DSLR cameras for nothing, which is far too exaggerating for the price and units. Canon is not a stupid brand that does worthless marketing with seven units of such expensive camera. They would rather get their own marketing team to do the job and increase their own number of fans for their Facebook. Other brands such as Sony and Samsung would give away their cameras free only to selected famous professional photographers.
3. There is no detail about the competition, except that the preys have to keep sharing the posts. The preys are supposed to share as many times as possible in order to have a higher chance to win any unit of camera but there is no application to track it.
4. It posts a status "The comment with no likes wins 40 votes into the 7D draw, drawn tonight!" in order to make everyone LIKE others' posts to generate more views in their friends' newsfeed. This is absolutely lame but smart.
5. After the deadline of the competition, the dumb scammer continues to share the post in the page.
6. The scammer is not able to release the list of winners and claims that it is due to privacy. Any decent business page would have proudly announced the winners and persuade them to advertise the page.
We have yet to find out what are the motives of the scammer. It can be just a prank to see a huge increase in the number of LIKEs or the scammer may be selling some products in future.

Janice Tan Fake Facebook Account
Another fake account by the name of "Janice Tan" (https://www.facebook.com/janice.tan.184007) has been exposed.
She seemed to be "flawless" for the past few months, adding guys to her list, updating her profile with statuses and "new" photo, appearing online in Facebook Chat sometimes. Her Facebook account just appeared like any other hot girl's account.
It was only until hours ago when she used another girl's photo, though without the head portion, she was being seen through.
"fell in rain and bump knee... paaiiinnnnn......"
The owner of the photo is called "Eve Lim", an ex model. The photo was taken years back.
When Eve approached her, she blocked Eve in Facebook straightaway, and also removed the photo. It was too late since we had already made a printscreen.
We have no idea what is her motive. The scammer seems to have created a few fake accounts...

Online Shopping Scams - Monroe Trends
One reader of ours is being scammed by a Facebook account selling MAC brushes and other cosmetics.
For online blogshop or Facebook page shopping, it is good to get recommendation from friends.
Be careful of Monroe Trends on Facebook selling MAC brushes and other cosmetics. Profile has been deleted but there might be similar scams online.
After transferring $, seller came back with an offer to buy 2 products at a discounted price. I agreed and transferred more $. Said delivery will take about 1-2 weeks as items are from Canada warehouse.
Seller then deleted facebook account and all I have is the account number. POSB SAVINGS :145-14097-8
Please be careful when shopping online, especially with individual sellers.

Serial Rapist Scams - Drugs
In this age of Internet, more and more couples have begun knowing each other through social media. It is indeed easy to make friends online because it is less awkward to be rejected via the Internet. The Internet has helped people who have less confidence or are too busy to socialise, to make more friends and find their potential halves.
However, nothing is perfect in this world. There are definitely going to be scammers who try to take advantage of our newage medium. Online dating scams emerge one after another.
We have foreign guys trying to trick Singapore ladies into "bailing" them out from the local police, Singapore couple and foreign girls extorting Singapore guys after making them reveal their private parts through webcam, foreign girls alluring Singapore guys into their websites, and the most recent news involves in a local guy dating girls out, spiking their drinks and rape them without them knowing.
Azuar Ahamad, 41, managed to take advantage of 22 women he met through SpeedDate (a Facebook application) by using drugs. His victims were aged between 18 and 41. He would bring them to a nightspot, drug them and bring them to hotel for sexual actions. He even filmed himself sexually assaulting some of the women on his mobile phone.
The victims would wake up without knowing anything since they were drugged. Azuar Ahamad would deny everything and simply claim that they were drunk and passed out.
Truth came to light when some of the women suspected and reported him to the police. However, he denied using of drugs.

As reported by The Temasek Times, a senior banker only realized she was raped after police officers called her. Her identity is kept confidential under a court gag order.
We are rather stunned by the number of Singapore girls who obviously have not filtered their dates whom they meet online. It is also stunning that young girls of age 18 would meet up their blind dates at nightspots.
We would like to appeal to nightspots regulars to look out for the ladies even if you are just a stranger.

Webcam Scam - Recording and Extorting from Guys
Months ago, the news of the Singapore couple who extorted money from guys over webcam had stunned many people. The scammers conned Singapore guys to show their private parts in webcam, recorded the processes and extorted money from them afterwards.
This is, however, not the end of the scam. While the Singaporean couple are being caught, others, especially foreigners are still out there continuing with their plot.
We are not sure how our local police can deal with scammers who are executing their plans outside Singapore. However, we hope we are able to reduce the number of victims through the blog entry.

Since year 2011, there is one scammer who is known as "Jacky Lee", who has started "her" search for prey through Tagged.com like many other scammers. She would then ask her potential preys to add her in MSN at leejacky79@hotmail.com, Skype at jacky.lee97 and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/leejacky79 (She has set her privacy, such that probably only friends can view her page).
During that time, we had not heard of such scam and thus did not take note of it. She, however, had been acting weird in the conversations she initiated, trying to hint that she was horny.
After the Singapore scam couple were exposed, "Jacky" continued to try her luck. We wanted to give her a "surprise" but she was too experienced to be fooled. Anyway, below is the full transcript of the MSN conversations.

Being a veteran in the scam plot, Jacky did a screenshot to prove that we did not have a webcam - we had disconnected it on purpose. However, the screenshot she sent over had proven that she was a scammer. At the bottom of the image near the centre, she had dragged an opened software to hide it. The software was "CamStudio", which was used to record video.
By observing the image, "she" was a big gamer who had quite a number of game icons on her desktop. "She" listened to Korean songs and even bothered to change the icon of the folder. There was also another folder by the name of "jerry", which could be "her" real name or another victim.
She was eventually blocked in MSN. Do take note that we are doing this blog on voluntarily basis and thus may not have the time to go deeper into stories like reporters or police.
Through research in the Internet, we have found other people talking about "her". There seem to be quite a number of victims who have fallen for her trick. Some have unfortunately paid "her".
We are not sure if the photos (from her Facebook) and videos (screenshot above) are her in real person or she has downloaded them online. We highly suspect that she is a Filipino who pretends to be a Singaporean schooling in Australia.
Anyway, we hope people will take note of this scammer and not fall into "her" trick. With the information given, reporters can try their luck to "play" with this scammer.
Update (03 October 2012): "She" has changed her Facebook name to "Ac Lee (Wants Hug)" and set her permanent Facebook URL to https://www.facebook.com/iloveyoulee79 .
This is, however, not the end of the scam. While the Singaporean couple are being caught, others, especially foreigners are still out there continuing with their plot.
We are not sure how our local police can deal with scammers who are executing their plans outside Singapore. However, we hope we are able to reduce the number of victims through the blog entry.

Since year 2011, there is one scammer who is known as "Jacky Lee", who has started "her" search for prey through Tagged.com like many other scammers. She would then ask her potential preys to add her in MSN at leejacky79@hotmail.com, Skype at jacky.lee97 and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/leejacky79 (She has set her privacy, such that probably only friends can view her page).
During that time, we had not heard of such scam and thus did not take note of it. She, however, had been acting weird in the conversations she initiated, trying to hint that she was horny.
After the Singapore scam couple were exposed, "Jacky" continued to try her luck. We wanted to give her a "surprise" but she was too experienced to be fooled. Anyway, below is the full transcript of the MSN conversations.

Being a veteran in the scam plot, Jacky did a screenshot to prove that we did not have a webcam - we had disconnected it on purpose. However, the screenshot she sent over had proven that she was a scammer. At the bottom of the image near the centre, she had dragged an opened software to hide it. The software was "CamStudio", which was used to record video.
By observing the image, "she" was a big gamer who had quite a number of game icons on her desktop. "She" listened to Korean songs and even bothered to change the icon of the folder. There was also another folder by the name of "jerry", which could be "her" real name or another victim.
She was eventually blocked in MSN. Do take note that we are doing this blog on voluntarily basis and thus may not have the time to go deeper into stories like reporters or police.
Through research in the Internet, we have found other people talking about "her". There seem to be quite a number of victims who have fallen for her trick. Some have unfortunately paid "her".
We are not sure if the photos (from her Facebook) and videos (screenshot above) are her in real person or she has downloaded them online. We highly suspect that she is a Filipino who pretends to be a Singaporean schooling in Australia.
Anyway, we hope people will take note of this scammer and not fall into "her" trick. With the information given, reporters can try their luck to "play" with this scammer.
Update (03 October 2012): "She" has changed her Facebook name to "Ac Lee (Wants Hug)" and set her permanent Facebook URL to https://www.facebook.com/iloveyoulee79 .

Facebook LIKE IT Scams

One of the most common Facebook scams is to get people to LIKE certain image in order to "make things happen". There are scams that say if you like the image, your Facebook profile will change colour there from the original blue one, while some say if you LIKE it, special things will appear or the image will move.
The reason why scammers would want more people to LIKE their images is so that the victims' friends would see the same post in their news feed, so that they can fall into the trick (LIKE it) too. This chain effect can spread extremely fast.
The latest Facebook LIKE IT scam is about the change of notification icon into a "heart". This scammer (We are not sure if he's the originator) would even prevent people from commenting on his post so that nobody can expose him straight away. Next, he added comments that whoever subscribes to his profile would get 200 new friends requests. This is definitely tempting to Facebook users who wish to become more popular by having more friends.
This scammer's name is Phillip Johnson with the URL of https://www.facebook.com/PjayalwaysStrappeg and he has created many scams to make himself popular.

Impersonate Scam Targeting Model Naomi Liu
For various purposes, scammers have been creating fake profiles on social networking websites such as Facebook and Tagged. Scammers targeting Singapore residents do not only impersonate foreign models, but our local ones as well.
Popular Singapore model Naomi Liu is someone who has been facing problems of her photos being misused by others to impersonate her. We are not surprised since she has been publishing her daily attractive photos online to share with her fans. The model with extremely sweet looks and hot figure indeed has caught the attention of many guys, including scammers.
Below are just a few of the fake Facebook profiles who have not only used her photos, but also using her name, trying to impersonate her totally. We are not sure of the purposes of the scammers though.

We would say the first scammer is the cleverest out of them since he or she has actually placed Naomi's blog URL inside the profile information page, which will further mislead visitors that it is the real Naomi's Facebook page.

Online Friendship Scam - Sexual Weblink
Following the exposing of Miyo Minako scammer, we have also discovered another similar "horny" girl by the name of "Chi Chi Yamaguchi".
Chi Chi Yamaguchi started off in Tagged.com as well and sent message to invite her new friends to her Facebook account. She was less aggressive than Miyo Minako though as she did not spam sexual Facebook statuses daily to advertise for her "free service". She will either be able to access the credit card details directly or be given a referral commission. In neither way, she is not genuine in making friends with you.
As usual, our advice is that there is no free lunch in this world. There is a lower percentage for hot girls to give you any free show on the internet. If you are going for any free bite, be prepared to be bitten by them on your wallet. Even if you are better looking than Tom Cruise or Jay Chou, there is a high chance for you to be cheated over the net. Obviously, if a girl wants to have "fun" with you, she would have done it over MSN or Skype video call.
If you are going for genuine online friendship, do not expect the girl to start arousing your lust at the beginning of the conversation; open-minded girls do exist but most of them would restrain themselves.
If you are single, go and get a real girlfriend instead!

Facebook Identity Theft Scam - Verene See
One of the toughest social media network scammers to determine/expose is one who constantly updates his/her fake profile.
Scammers usually create fake profiles to advertise for services/products, solicit for "help", prank others or even scam others directly for money. It is not easy to maintain extra social media network profiles and therefore, not many fake accounts will be maintained frequently. Those fake accounts that are well-maintained are usually for profitable reasons such as scamming for money or simply for work purpose (including cam girls's jobs).
Some months ago, we were looking at a fake profile who did not seem to be selling any product or service and neither a cam girl. The name was "Verene See". We did not discover anything strange about her at first despite some of her sexy photos uploaded were familiar. However, it seemed like her photos were in two different styles. It was until she started teasing her Facebook friends to LIKE her hot photo before she would upload new ones, we started searching around and realised many of the photos belonged to a Taiwanese girl - 徐湘婷, also known as 徐小湘. This Taiwanese girl was just a girl-next-door who had rose to fame because of her blog that included her hot photos of her sweet looks and 32F cup size.
We guess (yes, cannot confirm about this) that Verene See could be someone who resembles the Taiwanese girl and thus she is using her photos. We do not know her real motive for doing so.
Her previous Facebook account was GONE before we could broadcast about it, however, another new Facebook account with the name "Verene See" seemed to have emerged recently - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003746033639.

徐小湘 is a Taiwanese and should be still living in Taiwan. Whereas, she is not from any Singapore school such as Singapore Chinese Girls' School (SCGS) or Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP).
Basically, we can confirm that those photos with the longer and sweeter hair belong to 徐小湘. For example, the second photo from the top row does not fit 徐小湘's style as it looks more rebellious type.
Through our investigation through the Internet, it has been long since scammers have started using 徐小湘's photos to create fake accounts in Facebook. However, since 徐小湘 is a Taiwanese, not many Singaporeans would know about her name, but definitely would have seen her hot photos somewhere in the Internet before.

If you are able to identify other Facebook profiles that are impersonating others, do contact us with your investigation report.

Facebook Scam - Sharing Image - Flies Will Move

Direct translation to English: Press share, you will see them move.
By sharing any item on Facebook, Facebook does not display any special effect. The image is just a static image, which will not move.
Sharing the image will not harm you, your computer or privacy, but you may be mocked by others.
This can be considered as a prank, unless the person who posts or re-posts it has the intention of drawing people to his/her profile for marketing purpose.
The image is posted by a Facebook user Cindy Yow. We are not able to identify if she the originator of the prank/scam.

Hoax Kidnap News after Four Attempted Abduction Reported
Recently, there are a number of attempted kidnapping news circulating in Facebook, stating that young children are nearly grabbed and taken (abducted) by PRC Chinese.
The first news was contributed by a Facebook user by the name of "Allison Goon". The actual date should be around 18 March 2012. She was watching a magic show at Ang Mo Kio Hub with her son who followed behind her while she went to the litter bin. She turned back to see a lady holding her son's hand before she approached the lady. The lady claimed that she had held the wrong child in a heavy PRC accent. Then, the lady walked off with another man. The son told his mum that the lady had asked him to follow her and thus, it was not a case of "holding wrong hand". The manager of Ang Mo Kio Hub has confirmed the incident and the mother has lodge a police report.
On 23 March 2012, a grandmother reported to the police that a woman had tried to lure her 10-year-old grandson into a van outside his school in Simei Street 5.
On Tuesday 27 March 2012, another Facebook user said a Chinese man tried to abduct her young son at Northpoint mall in Yishun.
Police are still investigating the cases while they advise public not to spread rumours, which may create unnecessary fears.

Regardless of the truthfulness of the reports, parents should always ensure that they keep a good watch over their children. They should also educate their children not to follow strangers.
The outburst of the kidnapping news may in turn be helpful in building better relationship among the family members as parents will take extra care of their children.
Singapore is a small country surrounded by sea and two causeways linked to Malaysia. Even though our security may not be the best in the world, no one can deny that it is reasonably efficient and better than our neighbouring countries - less Mas Selamat's case. With the size, geographical location and good security, any kidnapper should really think thrice before trying it over here.
Taking the opportunity of the widespread of news regarding the attempted abduction cases, someone has posted in Facebook regarding a "true" kidnap case at Tampines Street 22. As there is no police report being made regarding any lost child by anyone, the police has identified the rumour as a hoax. We would like to say "good luck" to the person who has started the fake rumour, which had caused an alarm to the public.

Fighting Against Facebook Scammer - Kingston Romeo
Impersonating scam has become so common that everyone should take extra precaution when making friends online. It is difficult to determine if an online friend is using his/her real photos. We should therefore remain calm at all times and not let the "good-looking" photos overrule our minds.
Usually, fake female profiles are created for various reasons. This article will, instead, expose a male "user" of Facebook.
From the Facebook name Kingston Romeo (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001983734458) and the way he comments, we can almost be sure that he is a native Chinese Singaporean and therefore, the name "Kingston Romeo" is a fake name.
He is stupid to use a quite popular local guy's photo instead of foreigner's one. The photo even has a copyright watermark at the bottom, linking to the owner's personal homepage.

Kingston Romeo has been posting sexual comments on girls' profiles. He has done worse thing such as posting the nonsense on underage girl's profile. We will not post the girls' URLs here even though they seem to be quite open and not blocking perverts.
This Facebook scammer was probably down on luck that he was exposed by another fake female account's owner on 4th February 2012. She (Yes, we have reasons to believe it is either a female or shemale) happened to be in the owner's friend list and informed him that his photo was stolen.
The victim reported and blocked Kingston Romeo and created a Facebook event to invite friends to report him as well.
On 6th February 2012, the scammer messaged another girl who happened to be the victim's friend as well.
Friend2 managed to get the scammer's email address - lawrencex789@gmail.com - and shortly, the scammer somehow realised he had been exposed and changed his profile photo. If the email address truly belongs to him, he is the same scammer in Tagged who had used the victim's photo as well.
He messaged another girl, but this time, he admitted he was a fraudster. He stopped replying her after that.
We have no idea how many girls he had tried to hook up during the period when he had used the victim's photo.
On 10th February, Facebook's staff finally replied through email:
The victim used the link provided to make an "appeal" with evidence but the Facebook staffs had somehow decided to fail their users; there was also no reply from them thereafter. The scammer Kingston Romeo's profile was still around more than a month after it was reported by many Facebook users of the victim.

On 10th February, Facebook's staff finally replied through email:
Subject: Follow-up about your recent report to Facebook
Hi,
Thanks for your recent report of a potential violation on Facebook. After reviewing your report, we were not able to confirm that the specific profile you reported violates Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.
Please only file a report if a profile:
- Pretends to be someone else (Ex: yourself, a friend or a celebrity)
- Doesn't represent a real person (Ex: pet accounts, fictional characters or a person who doesn't exist)
If you still believe the profile violates our policies, use this form and provide us with a government issued ID for re-review: http://www.facebook.com/report/appeal.php?report_fbid=***********

The victim used the link provided to make an "appeal" with evidence but the Facebook staffs had somehow decided to fail their users; there was also no reply from them thereafter. The scammer Kingston Romeo's profile was still around more than a month after it was reported by many Facebook users of the victim.
